Faux Pas

Fashion. Travel. Food. Bridget. Gin.

Its been two months and 4 days since my last blog post. SLACKER! I have however been terribly busy in the last few months, writing articles on fetish clubs, dissertations on feminism in the punk scene and battling through a research project on mass marketed fashion and lifestyle shopping. Intense! So, I am now free. Some may say a bum. Waiting for my final results in hope that I have successfully completed a degree. If I haven't then I'm unsure what to do with my life... exxxxcellent.

Anyway, I have found a new want. It may be £495 but you cannot put a price on beauty. I absolutely love anything personalised as it means so much more than owning a piece that other people have too. Having something meaningful adds a unique element and is just super special! So, I have discovered the Anya Hindmarch Bespoke Edbury Collection and am craving the purse. You can also buy handbags and clutches, but they are up to £4995, so I'm being realistic and although £495 for a purse may be ridiculous, it is also possible that at one point in my life I may actually be able to own one.

You can add drawings, your own handwriting, your name and any meaningful phrase if it is a gift for yourself or if you're treating someone (lucky thing). Even if they didn't have the customising option they are b-e-a-utiful as they have a section labelled for your 'bits and bobs' a section which says 'penny for luck' and 'stamps'. I looooove these cute little details immensely!

Check them out here and join the waiting list... I may start saving the pennies. Need a piggy bank.

GORGEOUS!

These are just brilliant.

Amazing.
"Commodified desires and images are the strings regulating the puppet show of self . . . Self-presentations are increasingly intertwined with popular imagery, at times becoming parodies of the media images and celebrities. Life, or at least subjectivity, imitates mass-produced art."

Sad truths.

So, researching for a final project at uni and I stumble across many a interesting read on the whole carbon copy culture of todays fashion world. Individuality is key, yet people still seem to buy into the images society forces upon us. If dressing yourself is meant to be about self identity and portraying yourself the way you want, why do people buy into the mass marketed fashion. How can we create a sense of ourselves when people simply dress as the mass marketed images just to be accepted? People buy into lifestyles not just clothes, they are attracted to the connotations certain labels hold and the marketing of a label rather than the item itself. Who cares if you don't like the item, society says you'll fit in if you wear it, so why not buy in to fitting in. So if you own a Hollister gilet, you're clearly wealthy, attractive and stupidly popular? No. You're probably not, but you can pretend to be as that's what society is supposed to believe.
Of course everyone loves to chill out in a pair of joggers, I'm not saying that, what I am saying is that a bit of individuality is always refreshing.
Again, I've not posted on here for a long while. New Years came and went, January zoomed by at 100 miles an hour and it is already February, leaving me with just three months to attempt to gain an acceptable degree. Stressful cannot begin to explain it, I was warned of this struggle but of course I thought I would be the exception to that third year rule. WRONG!
So, I'm spending my days reading hundreds of books and articles on fashion related topics to try and muster together 8000 words on the role of the woman within punk fashion, filling out post grad applications and trying to compile a magazine on burlesque dancers, sex clubs and strippers. GOOD LORD.

Anyway, in the midst of all this excitement, I've managed to get creative and discovered some more wonderful fashion finds that make me weak at the knees.

Firstly, I've recently unveiled the intricate and beautifully hand crafted art work of Robert Ryan, with his sentimental and romantic laser cut prints, he truly is a spectacle. After lots of lusting over his work, I stumbled across this incredible dress which was featured in Vogue... An absolute work of art.

Stunning! I want a wall full of his work please.

Secondly, I know this is old news for everyone out there in the fashion world, but I want/need/pine after this Alexander Wang studded bag.

Valentines day? Yeeeeeah!

Thirdly, I'm all about my nail art and I had the perfect excuse to get creative last weekend. My gorgeous man had his birthday a couple of weeks ago and decided to have a day of all day drinking, missioning around London, visiting a pub at every place on the monopoly board... Ohhhh pub monopoly, never again will I play your silly games. Far too much walking and rushing for my liking. However, I got into the spirit by painting the nails with a monopoly theme. That's dedication to the cause.

Done and done!

My NYE accessory. Blingin' nails.
Pass the champers!
It's been over a month since I last posted on here. I've been very busy. Eating my own weight in twiglets over Christmas is very time consuming I'll have you know...

A Christmas full of Links, Marc Jacobs, Harvey Nich's and mulled wine.
I've got severe post Christmas blues...
